The mission of John Dewey High School is to offer an alternative form of education by empowering students to make decisions regarding their educational experiences, by enabling them to grow at their own rate in an atmosphere of innovation and dynamic interchange and by providing an extended day for their academic, cultural, and social enrichment.

A Message From Barry Fried

John Dewey High School has served as a showcase and model for innovative programs since its founding. We have been recognized as a "New American High School National Showcase Site." The unique features in this school include an extended school day with opportunities for students to work with teachers in small groups on independent study projects or for remediation; Resource Centers in each department equipped with reference materials and the latest computer technology; cyclical elective programming which allows students to take four mini-courses each year and to select from a variety of diverse courses.
